Like many pure plant oils, Broccoli Seed oil is packed full of potent natural goodness for your skin.
It’s one of our favourite ingredients here at Cannabella and an emerging powerhouse ingredient in anti-aging skin care thanks to its incredible line up of vitamins, fatty acids and antioxidants.
Filled to the brim with beneficial components which slow the ageing process (think vitamins A, B, C, and K and essential fatty acids euric, oleic, linoleic and alpha-linoleic acids), Broccoli Seed Oil will help to make your skin look and feel rejuvenated, youthful and plump.
All those fatty acids make Broccoli Seed Oil a natural fit for cell rejuvenation, pain relief and barrier repair. It can also help to protect the skin from environmental stressors and may even protect the skin from UV radiation.
Broccoli Seed Oil is intensely hydrating and deeply moisturising. It nourishes, calms and soothes skin, making it an ideal choice to use on inflammatory conditions such as acne, eczema, and rosacea.
Where Does It Come From?
As it’s Latin name (Brassica Oleracea Italica) suggests, Broccoli Seed Oil is made from one of a common and much-loved member of the Brassica veggie family, which also contains cabbage, brussel sprouts and cauliflower.
The precious oil is extracted from the tiny seeds of broccoli sprouts (how the vegetable part we eat starts out) via cold-pressing.
These little sprouts typically only grow for about four or five days before they’re harvested, at which point they’re said to contain up to 80-100 times more of the antioxidant sulforaphane than ‘adult’ broccoli.
Once cold-pressed, the Broccoli Seed Oil can be purchased alone or in natural skin care products such as our award-winning Renewal Serum.
What Does It Do?
Broccoli Seed Oil is growing in popularity as a healthier option for skin renewal than prescription or over-the-counter retinoid or retinol products.
These kinds of products all utilize a form of Vitamin A to encourage the skin to renew itself faster, but they also come with some negative skin side effects such as redness, dryness, irritation, skin color changes, sunlight sensitivity, swelling, crusting or blistering.
Broccoli seed oil provides your skin with a healthy dose of vitamin A without these unpleasant side effects.
In addition to Vitamin A, Broccoli Seed Oil also contains Linoleic Acid, which encourages the production of ceramides. These are the lipids – fat molecules – that help the skin retain moisture and enable the skin barrier to do its job properly.
How To Use On Your Skin
Broccoli Seed Oil is a key ingredient in our Renewal Serum. Plant-based and pure, it’s powered by a combination of botanical seed extracts (including Broccoli Seed Oil!) and nourishing oils like Jojoba, Camellia, and Rosehip Oil.
To get the most out of Renewal Serum, we suggest dripping 3-5 drops to the back of hands before applying to your forehead, cheeks, under eyes, using a patting motion.
Pure Broccoli Seed Oil can also be obtained and used in a similar way on dry skin, as an overnight skin treatment, to tame frizzy and flyaway hair and as a cuticle oil.
Who Should Use It?
Broccoli Seed Oil is a very lightweight, yet soothing oil that is ideal for sensitive skin types or anyone with a compromised skin barrier.
We have yet to hear of anyone who is allergic to this mild and natural ingredient, but as with all products, you should first ‘spot test’ our Renewal Serum (or any other product containing this oil) on a less-sensitive and obvious body part – for example your calf – before using on your face.
